Welcome! Joel F. Jaro is a New York State Licensed Psychotherapist. His offices are located in Midtown Manhattan and Irvington, NY. He has been a practicing therapist for over 20 years and in private practice for many of those years.

Joel believes that in order to restore an individual to a more balanced, healthy state the therapy relationship needs to be a partnership. One of the great lessons that Joel has learned in his many years of practicing therapy is that you need to learn all of the fundamental rules in order to practice this art form but need to also “forget” them and truly be present with the person(s) sitting across from you.

Joel’s style of therapy is engaging and interactive with a constant focus on movement and growth. He believes that goal setting and achievement are the cornerstones of successful therapy. He does not believe in talking just for the sake of it. Insight, while critical, is fairly useless without it leading to concrete, transformative change.

Some of the therapeutic techniques that Joel will incorporate in his therapy include: Motivational Interviewing, Self Psychology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, EMDR, Hypnosis.

Joel believes that each individual therapist brings their own skill set in their work with clients. He believes that there are many ways to establish a positive working alliance in therapy. Joel will utilize humor, theoretical knowledge, life experience as well as relaxation and hypnotic techniques to help bring out the best in his clients. He has experience doing individual, couples and group therapy and believes that all three modalities are useful methods in helping to promote change.
